When preparing content for a website it is important to write copy and use images and audio that is appropriate to the target audience(s), that speaks their language, that holds their interest, that answers their needs, that produces the results you want... whether sales, bookings, support, promotion, endorsement etc.
Care must be taken to communicate your company, organisation or institution's brand(s) effectively, in the right style and format, whether through words, photographs, video, graphics, animation, audio and music.
Copy writing for the website, image naming, the use of links and tags... all this must also be done with Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) in mind. The target audience(s) for the site are not just humans but the Search Engine "spiders" and "bots" too! The inclusion and use of key words, key phrases and descriptive text and file names is vitally important for improving search engine ranking.
This involves a long-term commitment with proper resourcing and expertise. Having developed a website you need to keep it updated.
A static website will not engage people over time. A static website is less likely to generate loyalty, to attract people back again and again. A static website is less "sticky".
Just as a human audience is attracted to a website that is regularly updated, informative and an "authority"... so are Search Engine spiders and bots. Both note when a site is becoming stale, both lower the priority they give to a static site and their interest in it diminishes.
